MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women’s soccer team will continue non-conference play on the east coast at UConn on Aug. 21 at 4:00 p.m. and Providence on Aug. 15 at Noon. Both times are Central.
Here are five things to know:
1. SCOUTING THE HUSKIES: Wisconsin and UConn have met seven times in 44 seasons, with the most recent coming in 2013.
The Huskies’ roster includes 2023 BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year Kaitlyn Mahoney and Mac Hermann Watch List member Chioma Okafor. Okafor led the team in scoring last season with six goals and three assists.
UConn is coming off a 2-2 draw against Vermont. Okafor and Abbey Jones were the two to capitalize for the Huskies.
2. SCOUTING THE FRIARS: Playing another BIG EAST opponent, the Badgers and the Friars have only faced each other once. In 2021, UW took down Providence 3-2 in overtime at home.
The Friars return sophomore Kayla Briggs, who was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. In 2023, Briggs tallied nine points off two goals and five assists.
Most recently, Providence saw a 1-0 win against Rhode Island. Graduate student Kacey Lawrence scored the lone goal.
The team will face Holy Cross on Aug. 22 before squaring up with the Badgers.
