MADISON, Wis. – No. 12 women’s soccer is headed to the Big Ten Championship against eight-seeded Iowa on Sunday, Nov. 5, at 1:00 p.m. (CT). The game will be streamed on the Big Ten Network.
1. KNOW THE OPPONENT: The Badgers faced the Hawkeyes in Sept. at McClimon. Aryssa Mahrt accepted a pass from Emma Jaskaniec to take down the previously undefeated team, 1-0.
The Hawkeyes are 11-4-4 on the campaign, entering the Big Ten Tournament as an eight seed. Elle Otto, Josie Durr, and Kelli McGroarty lead the team in goals with five, while Kenzie Roling picks up the same number of assists. Iowa averages 1.63 goals per game with a shots-on-goal percentage of .490.
2. BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS: The Badgers are seeking revenge for the 2021 championship game. The Badgers faced the Hawkeyes in the spring of 2021 due to COVID-19. Iowa came out victorious with a score of 1-0.
The team last claimed the tournament title in the 2014 season, which also happened to be against Iowa. The game went into overtime, with Kinley McNicoll scoring the golden goal.
3. RECAPPING THE WEEK: Wisconsin competed in the Big Ten semifinal game on Thursday, Nov. 2, against No. 15 Nebraska. Aryssa Mahrt scored first, with the Hawkeyes following. The team stayed dominant in the second half, with Emma Jaskaniec and Maia Richters netting two. Wisconsin advanced with a score of 3-1.
