May 2, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS) – Austin FC News Release
Austin, TEXAS – Austin FC announced today that the Club has agreed to a trade with Real Salt Lake. Austin FC will receive the No. 22 spot in the 2022 Major League Soccer (MLS) Allocation Order, $200,000 in 2022 General Allocation Money (GAM), and $125,000 in 2023 GAM in exchange for the No. 2 spot in the 2022 MLS Allocation Order.
The Allocation Process is the mechanism used to determine which club has first priority to acquire a player listed on the Allocation Ranking List. This list consists of (i) select U.S. Men’s National Team players, (ii) select youth U.S. National Team players, and/or (iii) former MLS players returning to MLS after joining a non-MLS club for an outgoing transfer fee of $500,000 or more.
The Allocation Ranking Order is set by taking the reverse order of the MLS standings at the end of each MLS Season. Once a club uses its allocation ranking to acquire a player, it drops to the bottom of the list. The rankings reset at the end of each MLS season.
Transaction: Austin FC trades the No. 2 spot in the 2022 MLS Allocation Order to Real Salt Lake in exchange for the No. 22 spot in the 2022 MLS Allocation Order, $200,000 in 2022 GAM, and $125,000 in 2023 GAM.
