Louis Saha feels Eddie Howe should be considered for manager of the season and urged Manchester United to use the Newcastle revival as inspiration.
Howe, 44, stepped into the Magpies hotseat on November 8 after Steve Bruce’s rocky tenure had come to an end. He struggled to make much of an impact early on but has guided the club to tenth spot. Any thoughts of relegation are now in the rear-view mirror after 10 wins and two draws this year.
The north-east outfit had won four straight top-flight games prior to losing 1-0 to Liverpool on Saturday. St James’ Park has become a difficult place for opposition teams to visit once again.
And Saha hopes incoming Red Devils chief Erik ten Hag can have the same influence as Howe.
“United should look to Newcastle with Eddie Howe as an example and hope the impact with Erik will be the same,” he told Gambling Deals. “When you look at how Eddie has created the foundation, especially at home with those fans behind him, anything can happen and you can beat anybody.
“You need a fortress where you are hard to beat if you want to win Championships and reach the top four.”
Saha sees Newcastle going places
The well-publicised Newcastle takeover has divided opinion in the football world. But one thing is certain – they now have cash to attract big-name stars to Tyneside.
But Saha feels it is not just down to money and the manager should be given due credit.
“It is very important to recognise the immense impact Eddie has had. I want Newcastle to take those next steps,” he added. “Newcastle is a lovely city so I think there’s a lot of potential for them to reach the top five next year if they get off to a good start.”
Liverpool and Manchester City are embroiled in an epic battle for the Premier League title. The duo are also still in the running for the Champions League.
