Arsenal told Chelsea outcast would be ‘great buy’; verdict given on £120m summer priority

Arsenal-linked Hudson-Odoi

Arsenal have been told that they should sign Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, who is currently out on loan at Bayer Leverkusen.

Hudson-Odoi made his debut for the Blues during the 2017/18 campaign and it is pretty baffling that he is only 22, as he has been on the scene for some time already.

The attacker has played 126 times for his boyhood club but he has often only been a bit-part player under different managers.

He joined Bayer Leverkusen on loan in the summer. This move is not going entirely to plan as he has only managed to start six times in the Bundesliga.

Last week, it was reported that Hudson-Odoi is unlikely to remain at Chelsea beyond this season and that Arsenal are monitoring his situation.

The Blues have spent around £600m on new signings this season and it is hard to imagine Hudson-Odoi finding a way back into contention after this season.

He was previously targeted by Bayern Munich and ex-England winger David Bentley thinks Hudson-Odoi “could be a great fit” for Arsenal.

“He’s very talented but maybe just found himself in a difficult position at Chelsea with a lot of players coming in and different managers, which sometimes is not a great environment for a young player to be developing in.

“If he can settle down at a club like Arsenal, with the full support of the club, then he’s certainly a player – if they can get him at the right price – then he could end up being a great buy for Arsenal.”

It remains to be seen if Arsenal’s interest in Hudson-Odoi is concrete, but they are certainly keen to sign Declan Rice from West Ham United.

They are likely to face competition from rivals for his signature and it has been suggested that he could cost as much as £120m in the summer.

Bentley feels that Rice would be a “great buy for any team” near the top of the Premier League.

“I think West Ham will be looking to cash-in and so I think they are going to sell him,” Bentley added.

“Do Arsenal pay £120m? It’s a lot of money, but what Declan’s shown from week-in-week-out in the Premier League and also at international level is that he’ll slot into any side and be a great buy for any team as he’s another…
