Man Utd legend insists he’d ‘sack dressing-room moles’ who leak stories to press

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand insists he would “sack” dressing room “moles” who leak stories about the club to the press if he was in charge at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils will make it a fifth year without a trophy when the campaign eventually comes to an end, while United also look likely to miss out on a Champions League spot as well in what has been a disastrous season.

But as bad have things have been on the pitch, issues off of it have also plagued United this term. The early sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer then led to a campaign disrupted by quarrels and fallings-out leaked into the media.

Record signing Paul Pogba’s supposed departure from the United Whatsapp group is one of many stories that have been leaked by the press under both Solskjaer and interim chief Ralf Rangnick.

And Ferdinand insists he wouldn’t tolerate any teammates who decide to reveal changing room stories to the media.

“You need a culture of people where there is discipline in the group where nothing is getting out,” Ferdinand said to Vibe with Five. “If stuff ever got into the paper, the manager would pull the squad out immediately – I don’t think this happens now – in a tight group in a circle and say ‘what’s going on here, if I find out who is leaking stories to the media’…

“And then you would be standing there thinking, ‘I hope I will find out that no one in my team has spoken to anyone in the media, because I haven’t’. But if it comes back through anybody else in my camp, they’re getting the sack because I ain’t having that in my dressing room.”

The negativeness surrounding the club has not stopped, even after confirmation of Erik ten Hag’s summer arrival.
