Virginia Tech earned a No. 7 seed as an at-large bid with a record of 11-5-3, having posted a record of 6-2-2 in ACC play.
The teams have met three times previously, with a 1-1-1 head-to-head record. UT’s last meeting against the Hokies came on September 10, 2017, with the Lady Vols coming out on top, 3-1.
UP NEXT: The winner advances to the NCAA Second Round to be held on November 22 at campus sites.
TENNESSEE IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT: The Lady Vols will make their fourth straight and 16th overall NCAA Tournament appearance since 2001. Tennessee has a 17-13-3 record in the tournament and has reached the NCAA Round of 16 seven times (2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2018, 2021). UT is 10-4-1 in first round matches. Last year, the Big Orange advanced to the Second Round after topping Xavier in overtime on the road, 1-0.
SEC HONORS: A trio of Lady Vols earned All-SEC honors. Juniors Ally Brown and Mac Midgley were named Third Team All-SEC selections as Reese Mattern was slated to the SEC All-Freshman Team.
SAMMI IN THE ORANGE: Graduate transfer Sammi Woods has made in impact in her sole season on Rocky Top so far. The Saline, Michigan, native currently leads the team in goals (5), shots on goal (16) and points (12). Her most recent goal came in round one of the SEC Tournament where she perfectly lofted the ball into the back of the net to propel UT to a 1-0 victory over Kentucky.
ALLY BROWN HOLDIN’ IT DOWN: Ally Brown, who leads the team in minutes played (1,718) has anchored the backline to eight shutouts on the season.
SCOUTING THE HOKIES: Virginia Tech earned a No. 7 seed as an at-large bid with a record of 11-5-3, having posted a record of 6-2-2 in ACC play. Taylor Price leads Virginia Tech in goals scored (6) and points (14) as Natalie Mitchell has dished out six assists and 50 shots. In goal, Lauren Hargrove has registered 51 saves while holding a 0.79 goals-against average.
