Women’s Soccer Ties Maryland in Regular Season Finale

Michigan State

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women’s soccer (10-3-4, 6-2-3) concluded the 2024 regular season with a 1-1 draw against Maryland (4-10-5, 1-8-2) on Sunday afternoon at Yurcak Field.

The Terrapins spoiled a Senior Day victory by scoring an equalizer in the 87th minute with just 3:18 remaining in the contest following a failed clear and an open-net shot.

Emily Mason and Riley Tiernan celebrated their Senior Day with a highlight reel connection to open scoring in the 24th minute. Tiernan played a free kick cross deep into the far side of the box for Mason, who charged and volleyed a rocket into the top of the net for the 1-0 lead. It was Mason’s second goal of the season on the final day of the regular season. Her first was the game-winner in the 1-0 victory at NJIT to open the campaign on Aug. 15.

Olivia Bodmer made a leaping save in the 75th minute to keep Maryland off the board. The redshirt sophomore made five saves in the draw.

Maryland outshot Rutgers, 17-11, but the Scarlet Knights edged the Terrapins in shots on goal, 7-6. Aside from Mason’s goal, Ashley Baran, Claire Hammill, Allie Post, Patricia Tsokos, and Tiernan all tested the Terps’ goalkeeper, who made seven saves. Shaela Bradley, Sydney Urban, Mason, Kassidy Banks, Tiernan, and Tsokos all played the full 90 minutes on the pitch.
