DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – Duke women’s soccer freshman Mary Long and the United States Under-17 Youth National Team is prepped for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup quarterfinals on Saturday, Oct. 26 with a match against Nigeria at 3:30 p.m. (ET). The contest is scheduled to be played at Estadio Cibao, Santiago De Los Caballeros in Dominican Republic and aired on Fox Soccer Plus and NBC Universo.
Long, a product of Mission Hills, Kan, started the final two matches of group stage and was very impressive scoring a goal, assisting on another and drawing a penalty kick as well. Over the last two contests, Long has combined to play 173 minutes.
The U.S. squad collected wins versus Colombia (2-0) and Korea Republic (5-0) in the two starts by Long. In the opening match against Spain, the U.S. dropped a 3-1 decision with Long coming off the bench to play 18 minutes.
Other teams to move on to the quarterfinals include Korea DPR, Poland, Spain, Ecuador, Japan and England. Nigeria, Spain and Korea DPR all finished with a perfect 3-0 ledger in group play.
If the U.S. advances to the semifinals, the contest will be played either Oct. 30 or Oct. 31 with the finals taking place Nov. 3.
