Real Madrid are reportedly ready to hold internal discussions over possible moves to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window, having missed out to Manchester United for the signing of Leny Yoro in the summer.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano on his YouTube channel, with the Italian journalist speaking in the video below about Real Madrid’s potential plans to strengthen in defence.

It seems nothing is guaranteed yet in terms of specific targets, but Romano seems confident that a centre-back remains in Madrid’s thinking after they failed to beat Man Utd to Yoro in the summer, while they also have problems at right-back now that Dani Carvajal is set to miss the rest of the season

Real Madrid have responded to Carvajal’s injury by extending his contract by one more year, according to Romano in the video above, but one imagines this will also lead Florentino Perez and Carlo Ancelotti to seek to strengthen the squad depth in that position.

Why Real Madrid missed out on Leny Yoro transfer

Speaking to CaughtOffside recently, Romano provided some insight into why Yoro ended up choosing United over Real in the summer.

“It did seem that Leny Yoro would be signing for Real Madrid at one stage, but, for sure, Man United presented a long term project with him as a regular starter,” Romano said.

“Important player status immediately, complete trust for the long term and of course an important salary were also factors in how Man United signed Leny Yoro.

“These reasons were the key for Yoro to decide to accept Manchester United’s offer despite Real Madrid’s strong interest.”
