CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame senior forward Matthew Roou earned Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Pitt junior defender Casper Svendby claimed ACC Defensive Player of the Week for matches played September 23-29, it was announced Tuesday.
Roou continued his incredible run of play last week, scoring four goals over two games to give him the ACC lead in both total goals (8) and goals per game (1.0). The native of Germantown, Wisconsin, started the week by recording his second-straight hat trick in Notre Dame’s 3-1 win over Detroit Mercy on Tuesday, September 24, becoming just the second player in program history with multiple hat tricks in a season (Kevin Lovejoy, 1979). Roou followed that up by recording the game-winning goal in the 86th minute in a 2-1 comeback win over No. 12 Clemson on Friday, September 27. The goal marked Roou’s third game winner of the season, which is tied for the most in the ACC.
Svendby anchored Pitt’s defense in a 2-0 victory at No. 17 Virginia Tech on Saturday, September 28. The Panthers’ back line held the Hokies to a season-low three shots on goal en route to their third-consecutive clean sheet. A product of Drammen, Norway, Svendby also recorded an assist Saturday, marking his third in as many matches. Ranked No. 1 nationally, Pitt has now gone 275 minutes and 34 seconds of action without conceding a goal, dating to the second half against Louisville (September 13).
The fifth of nine weeks of league play features seven matches scheduled from Thursday through Saturday, October 3-5. ACC Network will air the Pitt at Duke matchup at 7 p.m. ET on Friday, October 4.
