COLLEGE PARK, MD — Each week during the 2024-25 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week.
This week’s Terp of the Week is Leon Koehl from men’s soccer.
Koehl stepped to the penalty spot and scored the first goal for Maryland in its 2-1 win over Northwestern. The win pushed Maryland to 3-0 in the Big Ten, the Terps’ best start in conference play since joining the Big Ten in 2014 and best in any conference since 2012 in the ACC. The 19th-ranked Terps are 5-1-3 overall and undefeated in their last seven games (5-0-2).
The penalty kick goal was the fourth of the season for Koehl, the most since Malcolm Johnston had four penalty kick goals in 2022. Koehl’s is 4-4 from the penalty spot this season, and his four PK goals lead the Big Ten and are tied for the most in the nation. Koehl’s four goals this season lead the Terps and are tied for the fourth-most in the Big Ten.
The men’s soccer team is back in action on Tuesday, as they host Penn State at Ludwig Field. Kickoff is slated for 6:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on Big Ten Network.
