Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven produced an absolutely incredible run and pass across goal to set up Brennan Johnson for an early opener against Manchester United in this afternoon’s Premier League clash at Old Trafford.
Van de Ven started deep in his own half as he won the ball off Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford before driving forward all the way into the opposition penalty area, where he squared it straight to the path of the unmarked Johnson at the back post.
This was a quite sublime piece of play by the Dutchman, and Gary Neville was suitably impressed as he responded to it on commentary, describing it as one of the best runs he’d ever seen from a central defender…

Johnson has been in superb form for Spurs of late, but he won’t have many easier finishes than this one after Van de Ven did so well to set him up.
Still, this is generally a great start by Tottenham, who have exploited a clear weakness in this Red Devils side, who were also found wanting as they lost the ball and allowed Twente to run through their defence and score in their midweek Europa League game.
This time it was Tottenham who took advantage, with Van de Ven producing a great moment that fans of the north London club sure to remember for a long time, while it will no doubt go down as an assist of the season contender.
