Men’s Soccer Draws No. 25 Michigan on Senior Day

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men’s soccer (3-5-2, 0-2-1 B1G) tied No. 25 Michigan (5-0-4, 1-0-3 B1G), 1-1 on Saturday afternoon.  

The Wolverines struck first in the 14th minute, but the Scarlet Knights weren’t far behind as Nestor Cabrera notched the first goal of his career just about a minute later. 

Despite many more great offensive chances for RU, the contest ended in the 1-1 draw.

14′ (UM) Oliver Martin – Beto Soto, Duilio Herrera 

15′ (RU) Nestor Cabrera 

Game Notes  

  • Cabrera recorded the first points of his career with his first goal.  
  • RU dominated in almost every statistic. Besting UM in shots (19-9), shots on goal (6-4) and corner kicks (11-5).  
  • The Scarlet Knights’ 19 total shots marks the second highest in a single game this season. They accumulated 20 shots earlier in the campaign against Yale (Sept. 17). The 16 first half shots signifies a season best. 
  • The 1-1 draw is the best result Rutgers has earned against the three ranked opponents the team has faced this slate.  
  • Ciaran Dalton made three saves in net, bringing his season total to 44 stops.  
  • Freshman Arnar Adalsteinsson started his eighth game for Rutgers.  
  • Other rookies in Matty Lynch and Thomas Angelone also got on the pitch.
