Utah Soccer Draws 0-0 to Iowa State

#23 Oklahoma State

SALT LAKE CITY- The University of Utah women’s soccer program fought hard in a battle at Ute Field on Thursday evening, but ended with their first conference tie, 0-0, with the Iowa State Cyclones.

“I really liked the way we played today overall,” said head coach Hideki Nakada. “We talked a lot about the game and our style of playing and I am proud of our team for playing the way we did.”

Utah, 4-4-3, now 1-2-1 in conference play, matched efforts with Iowa State 3-5-3, 1-1-1 in Big 12 matches. The Utes and the Cyclones had an even fight all through the game, each tallying 10 shots.

Freshman midfielder Katie Callaway started the first match of her career and found a new career high, tallying three of the Utes ten shots. While redshirt freshman midfielder Bella Woods tied her season high and marked two shots.

With both teams trying to add a victory to their conference record, the game proved to be a physical battle totaling three yellow cards and 24 fouls, 15 of which occurred in the second half.

“Unfortunately we weren’t clinical enough in the final third,” said Nakada. “But at the end of the day, that’s soccer and we have to move on and get ready for Sunday’s big game against Oklahoma State.”
