Wazzu begins its conference schedule, Saturday, Sept. 28, hosting San Diego in its inaugural WCC match. The Cougs and Toreros are scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. PT with coverage on ESPN+ and commentary from Greg Heister. Saturday’s match represents Latino/a/x Night with celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and WSU’s Hispanic affinity organizations.
Washington State and San Diego meet for the third time in program history and first time with Wazzu under Head Coach Todd Shulenberger. The Cougars hold a 2-0-0 all-time record with a 1994 victory in Pullman and a 2012 win in Los Angeles. The Cougars have never lost to USD and have never held the Toreros scoreless.
Last time on the pitch at No. 7 Utah State, the Cougars held the top-10 Aggies to a scoreless draw in Logan last Thursday, as Nadia Cooper picked up her second cleansheet in three games. The cleansheet marked the first shutout against a top-10 opponent since Cooper’s freshman season, playing to a scoreless draw with No. 5 Southern California, Oct. 21, 2021, in Pullman.
Nadia Cooper was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 24 for the second time this season, after her cleansheet at Utah State. Cooper earned her 17th career shutout and second cleansheet against a top-10 team. The honor was Cooper’s fourth career weekly conference honor, having been named Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week twice as a freshman.
Grayson Lynch played her 87th career match last Thursday at Utah State, moving her into sole possession of fourth-most matches played by a WSU field player in program history. If Lynch plays all the remaining regular season matches, she will sit second in all-time WSU matches played with 97 behind Sydney Pulver (98).
In last Thursday’s shutout draw at No. 7 Utah State, Nadia Cooper earned her 17th career shutout and second-career shutout against a top-10 opponent. The result marked the Cougs’ first road shutout against a top-10 side since defeating No. 5 South Carolina, Nov. 29, 2019 in the NCAA Tournament to clinch a spot in the NCAA College Cup and first result (win or tie) against a top-10 opponent since Cooper’s freshman…
