AC Milan are aware of how unsettled Kieran Trippier has become at Newcastle United and want to capitalise on the situation in the January transfer window.
The 34-year-old right-back recently lost the Magpies’ captaincy with Eddie Howe opting to hand the armband to Bruno Guimaraes.
And to make matters worse, has also been demoted to a squad player following the emergence of Tino Livramento.
The former Spurs and Atletico Madrid defender now wants to move on in search of regular minutes, and, had it not have been for the window closing when it did, would have probably left St. James’ Park in the summer.
Kieran Trippier’s St. James’ Park days numbered
Failing to make a move, Trippier has been forced to stick around but according to Fichajes, could once again push for a transfer once the January window opens, and there are already several top European clubs positioning themselves to lure the England international away from the northeast.
Despite coming up short last month, Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce have remained hot on the defender’s heels with Italian side Atalanta also keen. The biggest club to add Trippier to their mid-season shortlist is AC Milan though.
The Rossoneri are hoping to add an experienced player with a proven track record of performing in the most high-pressured environments, and of course, Trippier, whose professional career has spanned 17 years years and included 54 senior international appearances, fits the bill perfectly.
The full-back’s £120,000-per week contract, which expires in 18 months, puts him among Newcastle’s highest earners (Spotrac).
