IRVING, Texas – Arizona Soccer ‘s Zoe Mendiola was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week, announced by the conference on Wednesday.
Mendiola started both matches last week against Baylor and TCU and played 105 total minutes to help Arizona split the weekend. The Fullerton, California native helped Arizona keep a clean sheet in its win over Baylor.
She was a key member of the back line that held the Bears to only five shots on goal. In addition, Mendiola helped the Wildcats’ defense limit TCU to only five shots on goal.
Mendiola and the Wildcats return home for their Big 12 home-opener on Thursday against Cincinnati. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. MST and will be the program’s inaugural Hispanic Heritage Night. Arizona will face West Virginia on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. MST at Mulcahy Stadium.
