Arsenal are getting ever closer to Man City’s level, as was shown with a brilliant performance at the Etihad Stadium at the weekend.
Mikel Arteta’s men managed to stifle their hosts right up until the last knockings of injury time, though City must also deserve credit for a never-say-die attitude.
Given that the Gunners were down to 10 men for the entirety of the second half there’s an argument that they did the very best in the circumstances, however, if they had a formidable outlet up front, that could’ve caused Pep Guardiola’s side all sorts of problems.
For all of Kai Havertz’s excellent finishing and brilliant associative play with his team-mates, having a more bullish front man, and one that can regularly find the net, would surely improve Arsenal’s chances of seeing games like Sunday’s out.
When on form, Gabriel Jesus is often amongst the goals, but his injury record means that the Brazilian can’t be relied upon.
Arsenal looking at Dusan Vlahovic
Perhaps that’s why the North Londoners have drawn up a shortlist of striker signings, with TeamTalk noting that Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic is a potential option given his contract situation.
According to transfermarkt, the Serbian’s deal with Juve is due to finish in the summer of 2026, meaning next summer would be the Italian giant’s best chance of receiving a decent fee for his services.
Vlahovic already has two goals in five appearances this season, and his career total of 115 goals in 264 games (transfermarkt) isn’t to be sniffed at.
Moreover, he will still only be 25 years of age by the start of the 2025/26 campaign, making him a very attractive proposition at the right price.
Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko are other names believed to be on the list, though if finances remain a factor, Vlahovic could be the man for Arteta.
