Soccer Falls to No. 3 Arkansas

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri soccer was defeated 8-2 by No. 3 Arkansas on Sunday afternoon at Razorback Stadium.

Senior midfielder Leah Selm and junior forward Kylee Simmons led Missouri’s offense with each of the goals in the contest.

In the 70th minute, Selm booted a freekick that bounced inside the box and found the back of the net.

Just over 10 minutes later, The Tigers attack rushed down the field and dished the ball to Simmons who was able to place it in the top right corner of the net.

Arkansas was able to take control of the contest early with a goal off a quick pass up the middle that snuck by Mizzou’s defense in the fourth minute.

In the 10th minute, the Razorbacks fired a long shot from the left corner of the box, but the attempt was deflected by sophomore goalkeeper Kate Phillips who pushed the attempt wide with a leaping save to her left.

Senior midfielder Milena Fischer charged toward the Arkansas goal in the 17th minute and struck a shot that went narrowly wide of the net.

After the Tigers’ opportunity, Arkansas responded with two additional goals.

In the 24th minute, Simmons found another scoring opportunity for Missouri as the junior was able to connect on a header in the center of the box, but the ball bounced wide of the right post.

The Razorbacks continued to pressure Missouri’s backline and added four more scores before the break.

After the half, Simmons battled in the box to get a shot off a cross in the 48th minute that was grabbed by Arkansas’ keeper.

The Missouri offense gained some momentum to start the second half….
