No. 25 USC Women’s Soccer Posts Third Straight Shutout With 2-0 Win at Indiana

Minnesota

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 25 USC women’s soccer team scored twice in the second half at Indiana to pick up a 2-0 win on the road and move to 3-0 in Big Ten play.

The Trojans, who now have three straight shutouts to start conference play, move to 7-1-1 overall with the victory. Indiana falls to 5-3-1, 0-3-0 with the loss.

After battling through a scoreless first 45 minutes, Helena Sampaio broke the game open with a stunning goal in the 63rd minute. Sampaio, who now has two goals and an assist in her last three games, volleyed the ball over a defender and struck it out of the air to put the Trojans ahead.

USC would double the lead just over four minutes later when Kayla Colbert scored in the 67th minute. Sampaio was again involved, sending a ball into the penalty area where Jaiden Anderson had a nifty back heel pass to Colbert for the strike.

Laurence Gladu made three saves in the game to pick up her fifth shutout of the season, and the USC defense limited the Hoosiers to eight shots, including just two in the first half. The Trojans held 57% of the possession in the game.
