DWS: Blue Devil Alumnx Spotlight – Ana Hunt

Ana Hunt

DURHAM – GoDuke.com caught up with Duke women’s soccer 2015 graduate Ana Hunt recently to check in and see what she has been up to since graduating.  Hunt, a native of Moore, Okla., saw action in 17 matches over four season with the Blue Devils.  She was a part of Duke head coach Robbie Church‘s first NCAA College Cup squad in 2011.

GoDuke.com:  Since graduating in 2015, what have you been up to?
Ana Hunt:  Life has been busy since I graduated from Duke in 2015! After graduation, I spent one year doing neurosurgery research at Duke, before attending medical school at the University of Colorado. I graduated from medical school in 2020, and I just started my last year of Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Stanford!  After my residency graduation next summer, I’ll be doing a one-year orthopaedic traumatology fellowship at Emory.

GD: How much did the CAPE program at Duke help you get a head start working in the medical field?
AH:  The CAPE program was instrumental in helping me get to where I am today. Although I was always “pre-med” in college, there was definitely a time when I wondered whether medicine was the right field for me. Having the opportunity to shadow doctors and have meaningful interactions with patients early in this process helped confirm that I was going into the right field.

GD:  Do you keep in touch with former teammates and head coach Robbie Church these days?
AH:  I keep in touch with several former teammates, whether it’s calling and catching up on the phone or hanging out in person! I am lucky Ali Kershner and Malinda Allen live in the Bay area, so I spend a lot of time with them. Ali, Malinda, Anna Munro and I all went to the Duke vs. Stanford game in 2023 and are looking forward to more clashes with the Cardinals now that Stanford is in the ACC!

GD:  What are some memories you look back on during your time at Duke?
AH:  Duke is such a special place, and for me, the best part of Duke has been the lifelong friendships. As I’ve gotten older, I feel lucky to watch these relationships grow and evolve as life changes. It’s hard for me to pick just one memory off the field, but my favorite soccer memory is probably the 2011 NCAA College Cup win against Wake Forest my freshman year.
