A potential Fulham signing that fell through on deadline day was left in tears on the day of his medical, according to a report.

Marco Silva‘s side were active in the transfer market over the summer, signing the likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Joachim Andersen and Sander Berge for sizeable fees in bids to improve their squad.

Other faces walked through the door too, but one potential deal that didn’t get over the line was a move for Lyon star Ernest Nuamah, who ended up staying with the French club.

The reasons for why that happened, however, have now reportedly come to light, and they involve the 20-year-old supposedly breaking down into tears during the medical and fleeing.

According to L’Equipe, Nuamah was being pushed out the door at Lyon and didn’t want to leave the club, leading to the events during the medical and the move ultimately collapsing.

The report suggests that the Ghana international flew to London to undergo his Fulham medical, though was desperate to stay in France.

He is said to have been in tears throughout the day, feeling as though he was being forced out of the club.

He completed the first part of his medical, though is said to have failed to turn up for the final stages.

It is thought that even his agent was unable to locate him, with the deal collapsing and the player remaining a Lyon man.

Lyon have not played since the day after deadline day, but Nuamah has featured twice in Ligue 1 for the first team so far this season, starting their first two games against Rennes and Monaco respectively.
