RENTON, WASH. – Following a 1-0 loss to LAFC on Wednesday in the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Semifinals, Seattle Sounders FC faces the Portland Timbers in a Cascadia clash on Saturday, August 31 at Providence Park (7:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM, SiriusXM FC 199).
This weekend marks the 121st all-time meeting between Seattle and Portland dating back to the NASL days in 1975. Seattle leads the all-time series 57-46-17 and the MLS regular-season series 15-14-9.
Seattle defeated Portland 2-1 earlier this year on May 12, also at Providence Park. Raúl Ruidíaz bagged the game-winning goal in the 50th minute.
Sounders FC (11-8-7, 40 points) currently sits in fifth place in the Western Conference while Portland (10-9-7, 37 points) sits in seventh in the West. Portland is most recently coming off a 4-4 draw against St. Louis CITY SC on August 24 at Providence Park.
Saturday’s match also reignites the 2024 Cascadia Cup race. Vancouver currently sits in first place in the standings with seven points, with Seattle in second with four points and Portland in last with three points.
After the match against Portland, Seattle travels to take on defending MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew on Saturday, September 7 at Lower.com Field (4:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV, iHeartMedia Seattle, El Rey 1360 AM).
