MALIBU, Calif. – Arizona Soccer (3-1-1) comes to a draw Thursday afternoon in Malibu, tying the Pepperdine Waves 1-1.
Junior Sami Baytosh had Arizona’s lone shot in the first half at the top of the penalty box in the 12th minute. Over the course of the half, the Waves maintained an aggressive offense and recorded six shots total. In the 30th minute, Pepperdine’s Tabitha LaParl pushed through the Wildcat’s defense with a successful shot on goal, putting the Cats behind 0-1.
Arizona battled for possession in the second half, getting a look in the 60th minute when freshman Narissa Fults passed the ball to senior Nyota Katembo, who shot the ball just past the goalkeeper in the bottom left corner of the goal.
The Cats’ offense built momentum in the last 30 minutes of the game, tallying eight shots, including one in the 88th minute from freshman Kennedy Fletcher. Four of those shots came from Fults, who assisted the Cats’ only goal. Arizona’s defense allowed for only two shots the second half, both of which were off target.
The Cats are back in action at UC Irvine on Sunday, Sept. 1st at 1:00 p.m. MST.
