MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women’s soccer team will host Loyola Chicago on Aug. 29 at 5 p.m. in the team’s home opener followed by Western Michigan on Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. Both times are Central.
Here are five things to know:
1. SCOUTING THE RAMBLERS: Wisconsin and Loyola Chicago have met 10 times, with the most recent coming in 2023.
The Ramblers are coached by first-year head coach Angela Staveskie and hold a 2-0-1 record, good for third in the A-10.
Loyola Chicago returns 2023 A-10 Rookie of the year Zoe Hevey. She currently leads the Ramblers in assists (2), shots-on-goal (4), and has netted one game-winner.
2. SCOUTING THE BRONCOS: The Badgers lead the all-time series against the Broncos posting a 3-0-0 record. The teams just faced each other in Kalamazoo in 2023.
The Broncos currently have a 2-0-1 season record under third-year head coach Lewis Robinson. The team currently leads the MAC in assists per game (4.33), goals-against-average (.333), and points per game (9.00).
Jen Blitchok leads the Broncos in goals (5) and points (10), while Abby Werthman leads the team in assists (3).
Western Michigan will face Creighton in Omaha, Nebraska on Aug. 29 before traveling to Madison.
3. LAST TIME OUT: Wisconsin took down Providence in a 2-0 shutout. Ashley Martinez capitalized on a goal to give the Badgers the 1-0 advantage in the 10th minute. The Badgers held possession for most of the first 45 minutes, claiming the upper hand in shots (8-3) and shots-on-goal (4-1). Captain Dara Andringa scored her first of the season off a pass from Khachab in minute 77. Drew Stover earned her first shutout of the season, making four saves on the afternoon. In addition to the win, the Badgers outplayed the Friars in shots (13-8), shots-on-goal (8-4) and corners (5-4).
