Panthers Head to Los Angeles to Meet the Lions


PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh women’s soccer team (2-1-1, 0-0-0 ACC) is staying on the road as they head to PLACE to mee the Loyola Marymount Lions (2-1-0, 0-0-0) on Thursday at Sullivan Field. This non-conference matchup is slated for a 4 p.m. EST start and will be streamed live on ESPN+.

THE SERIES

  • This will be only the second time the two programs have met with Pitt holding the 1-0 lead on the series.
  • Last time out, the Panthers topped the Lions, 5-4, back in 2019 at home.

SCOUTING THE LIONS

  • The Lions put up a strong fight in Sunday’s match, but they couldn’t find their lift against the CSUN Matadors.
  • The Matadors put up two goals in the first half to take the early edge.
  • LMU’s Helen Schaefer made a strong effort to score in the first 45 minutes but found the keeper’s gloves.
  • In the 84th minute, the Lions finally completed a shot when Geneieve Watkins passed the ball to Jennessa Groves who completed the goal.

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Panthers bounced back with a showstopping 5-1 road win against the Bucknell Bison, Sunday afternoon at Emmitt Field.
  • Senior Sarah Schupansky earned six points on Sunday with two goals and two assists added to her career stats.
  • Transfer Abigail Reisz made her first save as a Panther after a Bison made a run up the left side to cross the ball to the goal.
  • Pitt and Bucknell went into the locker room at the half, nil-nil. The Panthers held the majority of the possession in the first half with a 9-3 edge in shots, 3-1 shots on goal and 5-0 corner kick opportunities.
  • The Bison earned their only goal of the afternoon in the 49th minute.
  • The Panthers capitalized on a corner kick as junior Katie Zailski posted the equalizer from a double assist from Coffield and Schupansky.
