Cal defender Kevin Carmichael scored a career-high three goals and seven points in 2023 and was chosen by Nashville FC in the MLS SuperDraft.

California men’s soccer senior Kevin Carmichael was named to the ACC Preseason Watch List, the conference announced Wednesday.

The talented central defender is coming off of a 2023 season in which he garnered All-Pac-12 First-Team status and posted career highs with three goals and seven points in 18 starts for the Golden Bears. One of his goals was the game-winner in a 2-1 victory at Washington, while he also scored in a 1-1 tie at No. 18 Wake Forest. A dependable member of the backline, Carmichael ranked second in minutes played for Cal (1,548).

In December, the Thousand Oaks product was selected by Nashville FC in the MLS SuperDraft along with fellow Cal co-captain Wyatt Meyer. Both Bears will complete their college careers this fall before joining MLS.

Also announced Wednesday, Cal finished 13th in the ACC Preseason Coaches Poll.

Carmichael and the 2024 Bears conclude the preseason at San Francisco on Friday at 5 p.m. PT. They begin the regular season on Aug. 22 at 4:30 p.m. PT, when they host Denver at Edwards Stadium.
