Liverpool have agreed a deal to sell midfielder Fabio Carvalho to Brentford for around £20m, reports have revealed.

After struggling on loan with RB Leipzig in the first half of last season, Carvalho dazzled with nine goals in 20 games with Hull City in the Championship and maintained that momentum with strikes against Arsenal and Manchester United in pre-season.

A £15m bid from Southampton was rejected earlier this summer, but A Bola were the first to report that an agreement had been reached to sell Carvalho to Brentford.

The news was quickly backed up by Fabrizio Romano, who adds that Brentford will pay an initial £20m to sign Carvalho. A handful of add-ons could take the overall sum as high as £27.5m in the future, while a 17.5% sell-on clause has also been included.

Former club Fulham will also receive 17.5% of any profit above £5m.

A five-year contract is on the table for Carvalho, who is set to undergo a medical with Brentford ahead of putting pen to paper.

Reports had claimed new Liverpool boss Arne Slot had been impressed by Carvalho’s performances during the summer, but a significant role this year was always going to be hard for the 21-year-old to command.

The Reds are well-stocked in both midfield and attack, with the returns of international stars like Alexis Mac Allister set to limit Carvalho’s minutes if he remained.

Elsewhere, Liverpool remain interested in a deal for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

The La Liga side are trying to convince Zubimendi to sign a new contract and reject the chance to head to Liverpool, who are yet to trigger the midfielder’s £51m release clause.
