Julian Alvarez clarifies comments on Man City exit after Pep Guardiola response

Julian Alvarez

Julian Alvarez has insisted he remains happy with life at Manchester City following comments from manager Pep Guardiola about his future at the club.

Alvarez recently admitted he still needs to think about his future with City after being disappointed by his lack of minutes in big games, prompting Guardiola to urge the 24-year-old to come to a conclusion soon.

Following Argentina’s victory over Ukraine at the Olympic Games in Paris, Alvarez was asked for yet another response to Guardiola’s comments and he took the opportunity to try and cool some of the growing uncertainty.

“I heard what Guardiola said,” he told TyC Sports. “I don’t have much to say about it.

“I never said anything bad. I just said that I was going to think about it like I do every season to make an analysis of what happened last season, a projection of what may come. I always say that I am comfortable and happy at City, which is a great club. I didn’t say anything bad.”

Nevertheless, The Athletic recently reported that Alvarez wants to leave City over his reduced role in the team behind star striker Erling Haaland.

Chelsea have been linked with Alvarez, but the Argentina international and his family are believed to be keen to leave England and return to a warmer climate.

Paris Saint-Germain have been tipped to offer Alvarez the chance to move to France, while Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid are known admirers.

Guardiola is always willing to grant departures to any players who voice a desire to leave, but only if City receive a fair bid for their services. An asking price of over £70m is believed to have been placed on Alvarez’s head.
