📈 MLS Power Rankings: Cascadia cruisers, no changes at the top

MLS keeps on chugging and so does our weekly top-10 power rankings. Let’s take a look at who the biggest movers and shakers were after a dramatic matchday 23.

10. NYCFC (🆕)

The Pigeons appeared to be just on the cusp of breaking into the conversation as one of the top teams in the league before dropping three straight games. But they break back into our top-10 after putting four past Orlando City to kick off matchday 23. Thanks to their purple-patch in the spring, Nick Cushing’s side still find themselves just three points out of third place in the East.

9. Charlotte FC (👎 last rank: 7)

Charlotte’s success this season has to be contextualized. Nobody expected them to be here and they are doing it without star Designated Players leading from the front. Yet for the standards they have seemingly set for themselves in the last few months, a loss in Houston will be seen as a disappointment by Dean Smith and his team.

8. New York Red Bulls (👍 last rank: 9)

The Red Bulls remain inconsistent, but they simply won’t slip away from the upper reaches of the Eastern Conference. Despite a truly disappointing 2-2 draw against the ten men of D.C. United last weekend, Sandro Schwarz’s men keep ahold of third place in the conference for now.

7. Portland Timbers (👍 last rank: 10)

The Timbers have made the biggest jump of any team in the top-10 this week, and rightly so. After a dramatic 3-2 comeback win against an ailing Minnesota United side over the weekend, Portland have now remained unbeaten since the end of May, winning five of seven games in the process.

6. Real Salt Lake (no change)

RSL were off during matchday 23, and luckily for them the teams behind them didn’t seem to strike pay-dirt over the weekend. After a narrow loss to LA Galaxy in their first true test in many months, look for RSL to rediscover their high-flying form in July as they try and reclaim top-spot in the Western Conference.

5. FC Cincinnati (no change)

Cincinnati remain a victim of the success for those teams around them in the power rankings. After a small blip, Pat Noonan’s men have righted the ship with solid win away to FC Dallas, keeping them just two points behind Miami at the top of the Eastern Conference.

4. Columbus Crew (no change)

The Crew are back, so back. With…
