Man United made the shock decision to stick with manager Erik ten Hag for the new season following an end of season review – but a new report has suggested that some of the potential replacements were left less than impressed with what the club were offering.

Ten Hag will remain in the job for next season and has entered into talks with the Old Trafford club over a contract extension despite the team’s lowest ever Premier League finish of eighth.

The decision comes after an end-of-season review by the club’s board for the 2023-24 campaign, which finished on a high with a shock FA Cup final win over favourites Manchester City.

The likes of Thomas Tuchel, Gareth Southgate and Mauricio Pochettino had been touted as potential replacements,

United spoke to a number of managers and The Times claim that two of them did not find the proposal all that appealing.

One is said to have been ‘astounded by the low wage that he would receive if he took the job’.

Another ‘was left unimpressed by the transfer budget, which is roughly £35m gross this summer.

It has also emerged that Fulham boss Silva held talks with United.

Silva has bolstered his reputation at Craven Cottage. Having initially led the club back to the Premier League in 2022, the Portuguese has built a team that comfortably stayed in the top-flight in their two previous seasons.

Silva’s future could come under scrutiny again this summer as he emerges as a possible replacement for Nuno Espirito Santo at Nottingham Forest.
