May 10, 2024 – United Soccer League One (USL1) News Release
TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One today announced that the Charlotte Independence’s Mike Jeffries has been named the League One Coach of the Month for April. Jeffries’ Jacks earned points against the top two clubs in the standings, earning the long-time Independence gaffer his third (USL Championship, October 2021; USL League One, March 2023) Coach of the Month honor.
“I am honored to receive the award, though the credit goes to the players for their work rate and perseverance in two difficult games against the current top two teams in the league,” Jeffries shared. “The group has made the day-to-day work and training enjoyable with their mentality and competitiveness. In addition, I appreciate the staff’s efforts to take care of the details on and off the field to make the group run smoothly and improve.”
After knocking Greenville out of the postseason last year, the Charlotte Independence handed first-place Greenville its first loss of the season across all competitions on April 12. In addition to holding Omaha scoreless for the first time in league play this season with a 0-0 draw, Mike Jeffries’ side was one of two clubs to concede zero goals on the month, won the most points above expected on the month (2.88) and registered the second-best goal differential above expected goal differential (3.35), according to American Soccer Analysis.
Jeffries was selected as League One’s Coach of the Month by the USL League One Technical Committee.
