South Georgia Tormenta FC hosted Charleston Battery Saturday night in what was an end-to-end match. The match ultimately ended 1-3 in favor of the Battery.

The intensity of play began with immediacy for this game. Jackson Khoury kicked off the game by attacking for Tormenta FC in the first half with a one-on-one breakaway shot, narrowly sailing over the crossbar.


South Georgia and Charleston held long possession spells during the first 45, leading to opportunities for both sides. The first test for keeper Ford Parker came in the 14th minute when he was forced to make a heroic save. Parker went on to thwart multiple scoring attempts by the Charleston Battery during his time in the goal.

A constant battle for possession endured on the pitch for the duration of the match. Both teams played with heightened fierceness during the first 45 minutes, leading to a yellow card for Sebastian Vivas in the 22nd minute and Daniel Steedman in the 44th.

Tormenta FC opened the scoring in the 29th minute following a run from Trialist 8, beating two defenders before a cross found Sebastian Vivas. Vivas slotted his shot into the back of the net, giving South Georgia a 1-0 lead. Multiple other scoring opportunities arose during the night for Tormenta FC but were ultimately reined in by the Charleston Battery.

South Georgia held onto its lead for eight minutes before Charleston’s third corner kick of the night found the head of Tormenta FC 2 alumnus Leland Archer, resulting in an equalizing shot for Charleston.

Mason Tunbridge and Aaron Lombardi both made their debut for South Georgia. Tunbridge came on the pitch in the 33rd minute and was subbed off in the 64th minute. Lombardi was a half-time substitution for Alsadiq Hasan.

The teams came out of the halftime break level, but Charleston took the lead in the 50th minute. Charleston scored from a shot just outside the 18-yard box, giving the team a 1-2 lead. Charleston’s high degree of possession left room for intricate interceptions by South Georgia’s midfielders.

In the 64th minute, Joshua Ramos and Austin Wehner came on as substitutes for South Georgia. Goalkeeper Drew Romig also made an appearance for South Georgia, coming on in the 69th minute. The final substitutions came in the 79th minute as Trialist 10, Collin Mocyunas, and Callum Stretch came on for Vivas, Jake Dengler, and Steedman.
