February 19, 2024 – United Soccer League Championship (USL) – San Antonio FC News Release
SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC has acquired midfielder Kevon Lambert on loan from Real Salt Lake, pending league and federation approval. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We’re thrilled to add current Jamaican international Kevon Lambert, and we’re grateful to Salt Lake for facilitating the loan,” said SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina. “This signing speaks volumes as Kevon has proven himself to be one of the most dominant players in the USL. His abilities align perfectly with our evolved game model, and his enthusiasm to contribute underscores our ambition to contend for championships.”
Lambert returns to USL Championship after recently being transferred to MLS side Real Salt Lake in August 2023. The 26-year-old left Phoenix Rising FC as the club’s all-time appearance leader with 161 across all competitions. In six seasons, he posted 15 goals and 10 assists while leading Phoenix in multiple defensive categories, solidifying himself as one of the league’s best defensive midfielders. Lambert helped Rising clinch its first Players’ Shield in 2019 and reach the USL Championship Final twice in five total playoff appearances with the club. Since joining Salt Lake, he has appeared in three MLS matches.
Making his international debut in 2017, Lambert has 27 caps for the Jamaican National Team. He has featured in three CONCACAF Gold Cups for the Reggae Boyz, reaching the final in the 2017 tournament for the second time in the country’s history.
Lambert began his professional career in Jamaica, spending two seasons with Montego Bay United from 2016-17. He went on trial with West Ham United ahead of the 2016-17 English Premier League season.
San Antonio FC will host four-time Guatemalan champions Antigua GFC in a preseason friendly open to the public on Saturday, February 24. Tickets for the match are available online at SanAntonioFC.com. SAFC will open the 2024 USL Championship regular season against Loudoun United FC on Saturday, March 9 at Toyota Field. The 2024 season is presented by Toyota.
