January 31, 2024 – National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) – Seattle Reign FC News Release
SEATTLE, WA. – Seattle Reign FC today announced that the club has signed Welsh defender Lily Woodham through the 2025 NWSL season, with a one-year mutual option, in exchange for a transfer fee to Reading. She will join the Reign upon receipt of her visa.
“I’m thrilled and grateful to be joining Seattle Reign FC,” said Woodham. “This club has a history filled with success and I’m eager to contribute to the team as much as possible. Looking forward to playing in front of you all soon!”
Woodham signs with the Reign after playing for Reading since 2018, most recently serving as the captain of the club in 2023. The 23-year-old defender has totaled 84 appearances and recorded two assists with Reading.
In 2019, she spent a season on loan to Charlton Athletic in the FA Women’s Championship before returning to Reading and earning a starting spot on the squad. Prior to playing for Reading, Woodham began her professional career in 2017 with Bristol City.
At the international level, the defender debuted for the senior national team in 2020 and has totaled 11 caps for Wales. She tallied one goal for Cymru, striking against the Faroe Islands in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 qualifying. She also brings experience in the Wales youth system, with U-17 and U-19 national team experience.
“Lily Woodham became a professional at a very young age. Joining Seattle Reign FC is a leap she felt she needed for her career and continued development, and we are thrilled to welcome Reading’s former captain to the club,” said Seattle Reign FC General Manager Lesle Gallimore. “Her game acumen is high, she is a quality defender and an attacking threat from the back. It will be fun to have her in the NWSL.”
