Nottingham Forest have become the ‘poster boys’ of Financial Fair Play after being charged by the Premier League over breaching their spending rules – while Mike Keegan said they had ‘delusions of grandeur’ on Wednesday’s It’s All Kicking Off Transfer Week podcast.

Forest joined Everton in being sanctioned by top-flight chiefs following a huge outlay on transfers during the assessment period ending season 2022-23 – a campaign that saw them make 30 signings to their squad.

This season they have already made 15 signings and are still in the market for more players – with Borussia Dortmund starlet Gio Reyna the latest to seal a loan move to the City Ground before deadline day. 

Speaking on Mail Sport’s podcast, host Ian Ladyman said that Forest were becoming ‘the poster boys’ of FFP and called their spending ‘astonishing’. 

‘There’s been much moaning over Financial Fair Play – or PSR – and clubs think the rules are restrictive and to a degree they are, hence the limited amount of spending in this window.

‘I was at Nottingham Forest watching them play Arsenal. They are the ones that undermine this argument. They are the poster boys of FFP.

‘This is a club that have bought 43 players [prior to Reyna signing] over three transfer windows. They’re now under sanction but they’re still spending. There were two players into the club today – albeit on loan. They are still spending and that astonishes me.’

Ladyman’s co-host for the episode – Mail Sport’s Mike Keegan – agreed with his views and said there was an ‘arrogance’ about Forest – adding that they had ‘delusions of grandeur’.
