Louisville and Syracuse Advance to Second Round of 2023 NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship
 
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Louisville and Syracuse posted first-round victories Thursday in the 2023 NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship. The ACC will have eight teams, including six seeded squads, competing in the second round, will be contested Sunday at campus sites.
 
The Cardinals topped Dayton, 4-3, in Louisville, Kentucky, while Syracuse posted a 3-1 victory over Boston University in Syracuse, New York. Pitt’s season came to an end with a 3-2 defeat to James Madison in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
 
Louisville advances to face No. 5 seed West Virginia at 2 p.m. Sunday in Morgantown, West Virginia. Syracuse moves on to battle No. 8 seed New Hampshire at 2 p.m. Sunday in Durham, New Hampshire.
 
Syracuse 3, Boston University 1
After conceding an early goal, Syracuse responded with a vengeance in securing the first-round win. The Orange (9-4-7) recorded their three goals over a 10:26 span in the first half after the Terriers (12-4-4) scored in the third minute of the match. Nicholas Kaloukian recorded a brace for Syracuse, while Josh Belluz provided what proved to be the game-winning goal.
 
Louisville 4, Dayton 3
Louisville (12-5-3) earned its first NCAA win since the 2019 season, prevailing in a high-scoring affair which featured six first-half goals as well as 22 shots. The Cardinals broke a 3-3 deadlock in the 64th minute when Parker Forbes sent a ball across goal from the right side that was headed in by Brandon McManus. Bryce LeBel, David Boccuzzo and Josh Jones scored in the first half for Louisville.
 
James Madison 3, Pitt 2
Pitt (6-7-4) saw its season come to an end as James Madison (9-4-5) earned the 3-2 victory. Michael Sullivan and Albert Thorsen scored goals in the loss for Pitt.
