Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has refused to rule out a future move to Paris Saint-Germain

The 24-year-old, who grew up in Paris, was quizzed by French media about his future, following Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Luton on Sunday. 

Konate joined Liverpool for £36m in the summer of 2021 and has since gone on to make 64 appearances for Jurgen Klopp‘s side.

French television station Canal Plus, as per Goal, asked Konate on Sunday whether he had ever envisaged himself wearing a PSG shirt.

He responded: ‘If I said no, I’d be lying, but if you’re asking, is it one of my objectives. Not at all.’

The Frenchman continued: ‘PSG has made sure to recruit players who understand each other well and who play with each other for the France national team. 

‘Even for the people and the Parisian fans, it makes them happy. It’s what they’ve been waiting for for years, having Parisian players or at least French players in the team.’

PSG have a strong French core consisting the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele and Lucas Hernandez, who all play alongside Konate at international leve. 

Konate has carved out a starting spot in the Liverpool side, regularly starting ahead of Joel Matip and Joe Gomez, alongside Virgil van Dijk at the heart of their defence. 

He has also become an integral part of the French team under Didier Deschamps, regularly chosen alongside his former RB Leipzig team-mate Dayot Upamecano. 

Konate has a long-term contract at Anfield until the summer of 2026.

After improving their forward line and midfield over recent transfer windows, Liverpool will be expected to turn their attention to bringing in defensive signings.
