Cal Routs Oregon 8-1 – California Golden Bears Athletics

BERKELEY-  The California women’s soccer team put on an offensive showcase Thursday afternoon topping Oregon 8-1. Eight different Golden Bears found the back of the net as Cal saw it’s highest scoring effort since 2010.
 
Cal now holds a 6-3-6 overall record and remains undefeated in Pac-12 play at 3-0-4. Oregon now stands at 0-13-2, 0-7-0.
 
The scoring got started in the 23rd with a banger by senior Mia Fontana and quickly escalated to a 3-0 lead as freshmen Lizzie Vranesh and Miriam Hils each netted their first-career goals.
 
Two more goals came within a two-minute span of each other as senior Abby Borchers scored on a free kick and senior Rilee Harmon deposited one from outside the 18-yard box off an assist from junior Alexis Wright to make it 5-0. Senior Anysa Gray snuck one final goal past the Ducks’ keeper in the 45th minute giving the Bears their highest scoring effort of the season in just one half.
 
Caln tacked on two more goals in the second half including one from Wright who finished with a score and two assists on the day.
 
Oregon escaped a shutout scoring the final goal of the match in the 81st.
 
Sophomore Teagan Wy had a strong outing between the posts collecting three saves in 66 minutes of play before senior Makena Smith closed out the rest of the contest for the Bears.
 
Up Next
Cal closes out its home schedule this Sunday as Oregon State comes to town for a Senior Day matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT at Edwards Stadium.
