The Story:

The Lions make a brief return home following a three-game road stint, hosting 2015 expansion rivals New York City FC at Exploria Stadium.

City took the last matchup in the City Beautiful thanks to a 96th minute game-winner off the head of Tesho Akindele.

The two sides have each taken seven wins in the series, while drawing one another six times in league play alone throughout their history. The Lions have taken two additional contests by way of penalty shootout both in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs.

Quote of the Week:

“It is a tough league with difficult matches that come every three days in these moments. We need to recognize that it was the quality of our execution in the second half that brought us back in the game because in both halves I can’t complain about energy or willingness or desire or discipline. We just need to execute much better. Let’s be ourselves and do the right things. We have to keep that feeling and that emotion and execute the right things. We have the quality to do it. This is not just running, it is the quality of our execution that needs to be improved and let’s see if we can keep the momentum from the last 45 minutes.”

-Head Coach Oscar Pareja
