May 16, 2023 – Major League Soccer (MLS) – Minnesota United FC News Release
GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. – Minnesota United return home to Allianz Field following a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Sporting Kansas City. The last time the Loons were at home was the first the home faithful were able to sing ‘Wonderwall’, MNUFC hope to carry the momentum from the thrilling shootout win over the Philadelphia Union in the U.S. Open Cup into a midweek contest against the Houston Dynamo. The Dynamo come into Wednesday’s match having suffered a bitter 1-0 loss on the road to Seattle that saw two of their lynchpin players receive red cards – both Amine Bassi and Hector Herrera will miss the game Wednesday, which should bode well for MNUFC. The Loons will need to re-ignite their early season defensive stinginess if they are hoping to have success. The Loons have conceded three goals in three consecutive contests. On the offensive side, MNUFC seemed to have found it’s footing, scoring three against Philadelphia, but couldn’t convert over the weekend at SKC. With another big contest on the weekend away to the Portland Timbers, the Loons will look to bounce back and make a run in the Western Conference.
ADRIAN HEATH ON GETTING BACK TO WINNING AT ALLIANZ FIELD…
“Playing at home at Allianz [Field] has been fantastic for us the last three years, where we’ve gathered most of our points. We have to get back to our winning ways. It was nice to get the win [against Philadelphia Union in U.S. Open Cup] and hear ‘Wonderwall’ in the stadium for the first time this year, so let’s hope we can hear it again tomorrow night.”
WIL TRAPP ON KEYS TO FACING A HOUSTON TEAM THAT’S MISSING KEY PLAYERS…
“You have to temper that from the beginning, understanding that just because key guys are out, doesn’t mean you’re going to win the game, by all means. So, if anything, the preparation, the intensity and the focus has to go up even more because the guy coming in is going to be motivated coming in for [Hector] Herrera, coming in for [Amine] Bassi. Those guys are going to want to prove themselves. That can create interesting matchups and interesting things that an opponent can do. I think for us, they lose a little bit of kind of the engine in Herrera, but, they’re a team that is dynamic and can score in multiple ways.”
