That despite City seemingly offering in-form midfielder Gundogan a new, longer deal to remain at the Etihad.
The German’s City contract expires this summer, meaning clubs outside England could negotiate the terms of a free-transfer move from January.
And Barcelona reportedly have a three-year contract verbally agreed with top-class playmaker Gundogan.
Sport reports that City have offered the player a longer contract in a last-ditch attempt to get the 32-year-old to stay – but the Spanish giants still firmly believe they can get the deal done.

It is added by Sport that the agreement has not been publicised yet because any official announcement will wait until the end of the season – which for City could extend to June 10 if they reach the Champions League final.
However, until Gundogan puts pen to paper there is always a threat of the deal falling through, given it is only based on a verbal agreement.
Spanish outlet Sport claim Gundogan began by asking for a lot more money, but given Barca’s perilous financial situation, has compromised for a lower salary.
It is believed the 66-cap international and his family are keen to live in Spain after several years in Manchester.
Gundogan has played 47 times in all competitions this season, scoring nine goals – four of which in the last week, with crucial doubles in a 3-0 win against Everton and a 2-1 win against Leeds.
