Match Story:
The Halifax Wanderers Football Club returns to Canadian Premier League action on Saturday afternoon with a visit to Valour FC at IG Field in Winnipeg.
Halifax enters the match after a 1-1 draw with Vancouver FC in the club’s home opener. Théo Collomb scored for the Wanderers and was named to the league’s Team of the Week for his efforts.
Following that draw, Halifax is currently in a tie for 5th place in the league with 3 points. The Wanderers have drawn all three league matches this season, all by a 1-1 score.
Valour FC is second in the league standings with a record of one win and two draws. Their last match was a 1-1 draw with Cavalry FC on April 30.
In the all-time series with Valour, the Wanderers have won six times, drawn twice and lost five.
Following today’s match, the Wanderers’ road trip continues with a stop in Calgary to face Cavalry FC on Saturday, May 13.
Captains:
Andre Rampersad retains the captain’s armband for the 2023 campaign. This is Rampersad’s fourth season as team captain. Ryan James and Mohamed Omar are the Wanderers’ assistant captains.
Coaches:
2023 is the first season with Patrice Gheisar as the Halifax Wanderers’ Head Coach. Gheisar was hired in late 2022 after leading Vaughan Azzurri in League1 Ontario to an undefeated season and league championship. Joining Gheisar is assistant coach Jorden Feliciano, who was Gheisar’s assistant coach at Vaughan. Jed Davies is another new face in 2023 who is also an assistant coach. Davies’ experience in professional football includes stops with USL teams Ottawa Fury and Miami FC, where he served as an assistant coach. Most recently, he served as head of player and coach development for Futuro Academy in Ottawa, ON. Jan-Michael Williams returns as the Wanderers goalkeeper coach.
