Pack Drops Double Header to UNC

RALEIGH – The NC State softball team (16-31, 6-15) dropped the final two games of the series with UNC (23-25, 11-9)  in front of a sellout crowd on Sunday at Dail Softball Stadium.

The capacity crowd marked the fifth-consecutive sellout for NC State’s program dating back to the Apr. 14 series opener against Clemson, marking a new program record for the longest sellout streak in the 20-year history of NC State softball. The series sellout marked the second consecutive and first time in program history that back-to-back series have been sold out. 

NC State 2, UNC 4

The Wolfpack fell in the series’ second game, surrendering runs in the second, third, fourth, and seventh innings.

The Pack got on the board in the bottom of the third inning, with a single from Rebecca Murray drove home Makayla Marbury to trim the Tar Heels’ lead to 2-1.

NC State’s second run came in the leadoff spot in the seventh inning, as a solo shot to right field from Kaylee Lambrecht cut North Carolina’s advantage to 4-2. Lambrecht’s second home run of the season was the only threat to the Tar Heels in the final frame, with UNC clinching the series in the opening game of the doubleheader. Rylee Wyman took the loss for the Wolfpack, allowing three runs and five hits over five innings of work while striking out three. Aisha Weixlmann tossed the final two innings of play for the Wolfpack, allowing one run while striking out one batter.
