Manager tells Ten Hag to ‘shut up’ over complaints about Man Utd fixture schedule

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag unzips his coat

Palmeiras boss Abel Ferreira has told Erik ten Hag to “shut up” over his complaints over Man Utd fixture congestion over the next month.

The Red Devils have nine games over the next month as Ten Hag’s side reach the business end of the season with Europa League and FA Cup games to squeeze into a packed schedule.

As well as competing for a top-four finish in the Premier League, Man Utd are also in the semi-finals of the FA Cup and quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Man Utd played their last three Premier League matches over a six-day period with the Red Devils losing to Newcastle before wins at home to Brentford and Everton.

And Ten Hag was frustrated at the fixture congestion and wants to see more protection for his Man Utd players after Marcus Rashford limped off against the Toffees at the weekend.

Ten Hag told reporters: “The schedule. It can’t be you play three games in six days. We have to protect our players.

“Everyone wants the best players on the pitch, everyone wants to see great entertaining football like today but then you need your best players.”

A number of managers have criticised the fixture schedule in England but Ten Hag’s comments have annoyed Palmeiras boss Ferreira, who thinks the situation is worse in Brazil.

On the Man Utd boss’ comments. Ferreira told ESPN Brasil: “Football here has fantastic things… But there are others that are inhuman.

“Nine games in one month! The Manchester United coach complained the other day that Rashford was injured due to the sequence of games he has.

“I’d like to ask him or tell him, ‘In these next two months, I’m going to have nine games a month…’ Shut up, because you don’t know what you say.”

Speaking after their 2-0 victory over Everton at the weekend, Ten Hag couldn’t put a timescale on Rashford’s injury with the England international yet to be properly examined.

“I can’t say in this moment,” the Man Utd boss said. “You are a doctor, maybe I’m not.

“We have to wait – how bad or how good it is. So, yeah, obviously he went off with a complaint and now we have to wait, set a diagnosis and then we can see.

“Also, when I asked now the doctor I get the same answer.”
