Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has seemingly delivered a fatal blow to the chances of Man Utd signing Harry Kane in the summer transfer window, according to reports.
The Red Devils are looking to sign a new striker in the summer with Marcus Rashford currently carrying the goalscoring burden for Erik ten Hag’s side.
Rashford has scored 27 goals in all competitions so far this season with Bruno Fernandes the next top goalscorer on ten and then Antony on seven.
Man Utd did attempt to replace Cristiano Ronaldo – who left in November following a controversial interview with Piers Morgan – on a temporary basis with Wout Weghorst.
The Netherlands international joined on loan from Championship leaders Burnley until the end of the season but he and injury-prone Anthony Martial are unlikely to be part of Ten Hag’s long-term plans.
There have been rumours that Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos could arrive in the summer, while Tottenham striker Kane has also been heavily linked.
There have been doubts whether Ten Hag is looking for a striker in Kane’s mould, while the England international will be turning 30 towards the end of July.
However, there have also been a number of reliable reports indicating that Man Utd have serious interest in Kane and that Ten Hag would be keen for him to arrive in the summer.
The Daily Mail insist that Man Utd are still pursuing Kane – who has scored 21 goals in 28 Premier League games this season – but that Tottenham chairman Levy is providing a ‘major obstacle’ in their attempts to sign the England captain.
It is understood that Levy has ‘no intention of ever selling to the two Manchester clubs again with the Tottenham chairman still regretting allowing Kyle Walker to join City back in 2017’.
And, of course, Levy’s ‘policy now represents a major obstacle in United’s pursuit of Walker’s England team-mate’ Kane as the Spurs striker looks to leave north London in his pursuit of major honours.
The main thing in United’s favour is Kane’s contract situation with the summer transfer window providing the final chance for Levy to get a good sum of money before Kane potentially leaves on a free transfer in around 15 months time.
If Man Utd are cut out of the picture and Kane refuses to sign a new contract, then Levy leaves himself in tricky situation as he looks to get £100m for the Tottenham striker.
