Erik ten Hag has given the green light to the Man Utd hierarchy over a huge summer transfer move for Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos, according to reports.
The Red Devils are enjoying a successful first season under Ten Hag with Man Utd currently third in the Premier League having already won the League Cup.
Ten Hag can still lead them to further glory this season with Man Utd through to the FA Cup semi-finals and Europa League quarter-finals.
And the Dutchman is looking to build on his success in the summer as he targets new signings with the Man Utd forward line needing particular attention.
Marcus Rashford has taken most of the goalscoring burden this season following Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit at the end of November.
Wout Weghorst was brought in until the end of the season on loan from Championship leaders Burnley but the Netherlands international and injury-prone Anthony Martial are unlikely to be part of Ten Hag’s long-term planning.
And now Spanish publication AS claims that Ten Hag has ‘given the go-ahead’ to Man Utd over the signing of Benfica striker Ramos, who impressed at the World Cup for Portugal.
Ramos has scored 16 goals in 21 appearances in the Portuguese top flight this season with Man Utd willing to pay around €100m to secure his services in the summer transfer window.
The report adds that the 21-year-old is ‘attracted to playing in the Spanish league’ but that Real Madrid are the only club who could afford a move in the summer.
It is understood that Ramos is ‘very well referenced’ at Real Madrid but that Los Blancos ‘could go the other way’ in their pursuit of striker.
The newspaper describe him as the ‘new Luis Suarez’ with Ramos possessing the same intensity as the former Liverpool, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid forward.
Man Utd travel to St James’ Park to face Newcastle on Sunday as they look to put some distance between themselves and the fifth-placed Geordies.
On Newcastle’s delaying tactics, Ten Hag told a press conference on Friday: “A concern? We know they delay, yeah, and it’s something that the refereeing (body) doesn’t want.
“They want to have tempo in the game. That is the aim of the Premier League, to have tempo in the game, so then they also have to be consistent to let the game go, and do and act what the policy is.”
Asked if that was Newcastle’s only tactic that irritated him, Ten Hag said: “You said now the question but it’s about us.
