Timbers Fall Short to LAFC with 3-2 Road Result

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers and LA Galaxy shared points after playing to a scoreless draw at Providence Park on Saturday afternoon. It marked Portland’s 100th MLS-era shutout and second of the 2023 campaign. The Timbers will return to action on Saturday, April 1, playing FC Dallas the road.


Notable Numbers

Today’s 0-0 result marked Portland’s 100th MLS regular-season shutout. Starting the match, Diego Chara passed Real Salt Lake’s Kyle Beckerman for sole possession of the second-most games started for one club in MLS history (338). Only Nick Rimando (RSL) has more with one club (369). Pablo Bonilla earned his first start of the 2023 season, and the 30th of his MLS career. Diego Gutierrez earned his first MLS start. Eric Miller made his Timbers debut as a second-half substitute in the match. It marked Miller’s 166th MLS career appearance. With only six players (including a goalkeeper) on the bench to start the match, Portland had eight players listed as unavailable ahead of today’s game.

Before today’s match, Portland had scored in its last 18 matches against the Galaxy in all competitions, the longest such streak by any team against the Galaxy in the club’s history. Heading into today’s game, the Timbers had scored in each of their last 24 MLS matches (37 goals), a new club record for Portland.
