Pack Earns Sweep Over Boston College

RALEIGH – The Wolfpack softball team defeated Boston College, 3-2, Saturday afternoon to record the first series sweep of the season.

The sweep was the first series sweep for the Pack since April 2021 when they took down Pitt. 

The Pack started with a strong defensive effort as the top of the first saw three step up to the plate and three go down. Freshman pitcher Madison Inscoe struck out the first and third batters to start the afternoon. 

The Eagles walked the first three members of the Pack’s lineup to start the bottom half of the first. MaKayla Marbury stepped up to the plate and hit a ball to the Eagles second base. Marbury was out at first but Rebecca Murray scored to put the Pack up 1-0. Susannah Anderson struck out the final two NC State batters faced in the inning to end the first. 

Senior Libby Whittaker entered as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the fourth and recorded the Pack’s first hit of the afternoon after a single up the middle. The Wolfpack were unable to get a runner in scoring position before the Eagles defense ended the inning. 

In the top of the fifth, the Eagles recorded back-to-cak sacrifice bunts to get runners into scoring position and then score to tie the game one all. Then in the top of the sixth, the Eagles scored after a single up the middle brought one home. The Wolfpack struggled defensively in the top of the sixth as they picked up two errors. 

Boston College attempted to increase the lead in the top of the seventh but the Pack shut down the efforts after picking up three outs. 

With one out and two on base, Marbury stepped into the box….
